Parent Conference week is October 24-27. Click on this PARENT CONFERENCE LINK to go to the Sign Up List. I look forward to seeing you then. (This is a new sign up since the dates were changed)
Below is a copy of the email that I sent home this week - October 3rd - Oct 7th
I have enjoyed getting to know your children. They are very intelligent kids with great personalities and I look forward to a fun academic year with them.
I will send out emails every so often with some reminders. Most of the time, it is best to check my blog for any important dates or homework assignments.
Parent conferences are during the week of October 24th to October 27th. Please sign up for a time on my Blog at 2016-17Fisler5thgraders.blogspot.com. I want to apologize for having to change the Sign Up twice. I have been having trouble with the sight, but the Parent Conference Sign Up, on my Blog, is finally correct. Please check to see if your time still works for you because a few times were adjusted when I updated the Sign Up Genius link. Thank you for your patience with this!
In Math, we just recently had a test on Chapter 2 and we have started chapter 3. We usually have a test every Friday, or every other Friday, depending on the chapter length and concepts being taught. The students are welcome to bring their books back and forth every day.
We have been reading the book Blood on the River, which is a wonderful historical fiction book about Jamestown. The students have been doing a great job with using the Icons, restating, and citing while answering in-depth questions about each chapter. Ask your child all about this book.
In Science, we will have our first Science test this Wednesday, October 5th, on chapter 4 in the Science book. I put a link, on the Blog’s student resource tab, to the online Science textbook. The students have a study guide for this test and they did group posters to help prepare for the test. We will be reviewing and playing a Science jeopardy game to also help them prepare for this test, on Wednesday.
In Social Studies, the students have created wonderful posters on different explorers. The students will be getting a study guide for this chapter on Thursday and that test will be next week Wednesday, October 12th.
The students are doing grammar packets, a variety of writing activities, and we will start the Vocabulary Wordly Wise soon.
Please do not hesitate to email if you have any questions. The best email that I check all of the time is Jenfisler@verizon.net. I can also be reached at jfisler@ovsd.org. I just don’t check that one as much.
Don’t forget to get the Volunteer paperwork completed if you plan on volunteering this year. Thank you for all of your support. It is going to be a great year.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Fisler
